03.29.07

The last couple of weeks have been about moving the run back to 8 strides. So far I have been successful with pole selection and the movement in the run. It feels pretty comfortable and will hopefully result in some high jumps for the outdoor season. Looks like opening weekend will be April 14th. I wanted to open this past weekend but ended up with a spasm in my groin. It didn't turn out too bad as I was able to take a few jumps yesterday at the new outdoor track at the University of Arkansas. If you ever get a chance to jump there, do it. It is one of the nicest track set ups that I have seen.

Right now we are planning a series of meets with Bell Athletics in May. We will coincide each week and finish the series at Vaultstock. We hope to have a web cast of our meets at Pole Vault Unlimited, so I hope everyone who is not there can check that out.

3.1.07

This week we have had our first outdoor jump sessions. I have moved back a stride and started jumping on 5 meter poles. Being outside is much better training. I have been working for the outdoor season all this year and now it's finally getting close.

The changes that I made over the last couple of years are starting to show in my technique and confidence. In the first practice, I made good attempts at 5.20m. We decided to jump in a meet this Friday in hopes of putting a little pressure on the work that has been taking place and in hopes of raising the grip and getting on bigger poles before the outdoor season takes off. Tonight, I will get a good warm-up and get focused for the meet on Friday. This meet is actually a last chance meet for the colligates to try and qualify for nationals, so the plan is to get 8-10 warm-up attempts and open high. Wish me luck! I'll let you know how it goes.
