weekly update

I had a great week of training. Outside of jump days, I've been working really hard to increase my fitness and speed. I had a good vault session from short run early in the week. We continued to work on adjusting to a new short run which went well. I moved through many poles and kept my tecnique together as well. For this early in the year, I feel very confident and we are starting to see results in the height of each jump.

Kellen also had a real good jump session on Saturday. He has started to find some of the missing points of his jump. We have been really working on pressure on the pole and connecting at the top of the vault. We will continue to work on technique while adding some grip.

As we finish up the winter months, everything is looking good for the outdoor season.

Weekend update

PVU athletes did well this weekend. They jumped at the Arkansas invite club meet. Brenden had a good meet with a new PR. Kellen had a new indoor meet PR. All in all, they are progressing well during the winter months. We look forward to some big jumps down the road.

I had a short run jump day that went really well. I moved back one stride without any problems. The transition of technique held together very well.

Next meet will be in Joplin.

January 9, 2008

I had a really good training day today. Started working on a six step run with great success. I recovered well from traveling which allowed me to work hard today. We had great weather and I feel that I was able to focus. My fitness level is high and the strategic plan is on schedule.

January 8, 2008

What a great trip out to Reno this year. Kellen, Brenden and I jumped there this year for Pole Vault Unlimited. It was a new, fresh set up and eveyone was there. Although it was early, we all jumped well with good form. With limited training the last few weeks prior to the event, you couldn't ask for a much better effort.

The upcoming season is looking bright. There are several HS meets for the guys to improve in before state. The change from the previous season is positive and dramatic. I was really proud of the presence they had at this early meet and the ability to adapt to new ideas. Next meet is at Fayetteville.

From my end, training has been going really well. Technical work this year has improved in strides (due to the coaching of Earl Bell). I have increased my power during the swing, timing and activity on the pole. I will be coming from shorter runs until March to better my technique before transferring it to long run.

Now that we are starting a new year, I guess I will reveal some resolutions. 1. to be the best husband and father I can be. 2. To engage life with a strong passion. 3. Surround myself and my family with quality people.

I hope everyone has a good year and pv season.
