Update - Week 7

We are starting the seventh week of training. This year is all about the right mixture of training and being consistant. In the six training sessions during the week, we are incorporating speed endurance, hills or stadiums, sled pulls, weights, physio ball and med ball, core, gymnastics, power plate and one vault session with some speed work afterwards. With all the workouts available, finding the right mixture for me has taken years and changes each year as circumstances change. This year we are seeing good benefits without being banged up. Also, the consistancy in every workout shows during vault sessions, which is what matters in the end.

The last couple of vault sessions have been from 6 steps. Grip has continued to increase. So far, I have jumped on a 15 ft pole with a 18.9 flex and holding 13.10 ft. This week we plan to continue with 6 steps and finish with a couple from 8 to keep progression moving with the right poles and grip.

Outside of training, things have been quiet around here. Everyone seems to be fighting off illness and watching a lot of football on the weekends. October looks to be a little more exciting with bow season starting and a surf trip planned for the middle of the month.

Update

After a month of solid off season workouts, today we had our first legit jump session of the year. It turned out much better than expected and felt like I hadn't taken a break. My bottom arm was better than it had been for a very long time. We jumped from 2, 4 and 6 steps holding at least six inches higher than last year and jumped on 15 foot sticks from 6 steps. All in all it was a good start to the season. So far, we have been doing a lot of speed endurance and strength training. I'm pleased to say, that the bum ankle is holding up well, but still not fully recovered from a couple of months ago.

Outside of training, Louis has started school and doing extremely well. We are very proud of him in his first year. Chloe is walking good and speaking more every day. We have been spending a lot of time at the cabin getting ready for hunting season in October and have the Pole Vault Unlimited facility finished with both pits set up. It looks really good and we will have a couple meets out there this year along with a camp or two.

Hope everyone is having a good off season and we will keep you updated as the season progresses.
